Private Residence

Bowral, NSW

  • To provide a multi-purpose studio wing with separate facilities enabling guests to be self contained.

  • A separate wing to the existing residence which displayed a unique architectural character to enhance the existing design.

  • The wing was to partly enclose an existing courtyard, providing weather protection to it, whilst still maintaining views to the garden through the extension.

  • Outcome
  • The new wing extends the line of the existing building so that it appears contemporary with the original.

  • The roof design is eye catching and allows northerly light into the guests’ living area.

  • A low wall between the bedroom and this living area allows sunlight and ventilation.

  • Bi-folding doors through to the existing lounge enable the original portion of the residence to benefit from the additional light.

  • The addition has glass walls, providing a sense of transparency and enabling views through the space to the courtyard which now has weather protection to the west.
