Private Residence

Mittagong, NSW

  • To remedy previous unsympathetic and confined alterations and additions to accommodate new owners’ lifestyle requirements.

  • To open the house to the northerly aspect of the garden and retain an existing tree as a central feature.

  • Upgrading of the kitchen and bathrooms was also an important requirement.

  • Outcome
  • The design solution was based on a central open planned space with high energy efficiency qualities allowing other rooms to flow from its function. A large bay window style room was created under a pitched octagonal roof replicating a conservatory with a high shaped ceiling. The adjoining study and relocated kitchen formed part of the central room activities all having northern views of the garden.

  • The owners are delighted with the outcome that blends their current lifestyle requirements with energy efficiency performance and its successful integration with the original 1890 Victorian Style house.

  • The heritage significance of the property is enhanced by the painstaking detailing and sympathetic design of the renovations.

  • The builder, AJ Corby, won the 2008 MBA awards for best alteration and addition between $300,000 and $500,000 and Best New Builder of the Year.
