Project
Olsen Residence

Location
Glenquarry, NSW

Construction
$600,000

Year
2012

Brief
  • To modernize and extend an existing country homestead located adjacent to a large ornamental lake.

  • The existing residence was poorly constructed and substantial maintenance work was required to bring it up to an appropriate standard.

  • The original pavilion style design needed to be unified and a doubling of the floor area was envisaged, maintaining the style of the original.

  • A studio wing was required for the owner’s use as a working gallery.

  • Outcome
  • A sympathetic and beautifully executed extension which maximises the site’s potential and opens the house to its stunning surrounds.

  • An exciting interior with simple modern finishes and practical spatial arrangement.

  • The studio wing provides a cathedral like space for the owner, Artist John Olsen, and abuts the lake, making it an ideal creative environment.
