Brief
  • This was to be a large open planned country style residence for a family on a working farm.

  • The idea was to create a “Great Hall” with a space which could be varied for the family’s specific purposes, being both formal and informal.

  • A low maintenance, comfortable environment was required with a ‘homely’ feel.

  • Outcome
  • The house was designed around an H plan with an open planned central living space.

  • Large door openings to the northern terrace were used to maximise sunlight and provide an indoor outdoor feel, linking the interior to a large northerly verandah.

  • Windows on both sides of the space provide cross ventilation and views in both directions.

  • A high boarded ceiling and feature fire place provide a rustic country feel and allow the space to be dressed up or down according to the owners’ needs.
