Brief
  • To design a multipurpose school hall for a growing primary and secondary school under the Federal Government BER scheme.

  • Create a ‘landmark’ building able to accommodate the extended school population for whole school functions, theatre productions, basketball and netball facilities and a class room for drama lessons.

  • A fixed budget with no opportunity for increase in building cost and construction to be completed within limited time frame.
  • Maximise the facilities provided for the budget and a highly constrained site.
  • As far as possible the building was to be energy efficient, well lit and economical to maintain.

  • Outcome
  • A highly efficient, innovative and versatile building which caters for a multitude of uses for the school. The completed hall easily accommodates whole school activities and the enormous stage is both functional and practical.

  • Quickly constructed from low maintenance robust materials requiring minimal maintenance.
  • The strict budget was not exceeded, through careful project management and working closely with the builders.
  • A comfortable, voluminous naturally lit internal space with good ventilation.
  • An ‘eye catching’ feature building which sits well in the limited space available and provides a centrepiece for school activities
